Text Box: GREATER ORLANDO AIRPORT AUTHORITY

OHC conducted several IAQ studies at the Orlando International Airport in response to hurricane damage experienced in 2004.  Based on that work OHC was awarded a contract to provide a detailed building inspection and large-scale mold remediation project for the Hyatt Hotel located at the airport.  This hotel had historically experienced various water intrusion events and had required some mold remediation several years earlier.

A quick response was required to immediately begin remediation on the 9th floor while conducting a detailed building report and moisture survey at the same time.  The building report was a cooperative effort between OHC senior staff, including industrial hygienists, microbiologists, architects, and project managers.  Upon issuance of the building inspection final report, which detailed sources and areas of water intrusion as well as corrective actions, a second contract including all other affected floors was awarded to OHC.

On this project OHC has consistently shown adherence to a demanding schedule that includes room turnover to be coordinated with both pre- and post-remediation contractors.  The hotel remains operational during remediation and construction activities, so it is essential for OHC to provide strict adherence to policies and management procedures designed to minimize interference with guest relations.  Remediation efforts remained in place even while the most distinguished guests visited the hotel, including Vice President Dick Cheney.

Currently over 50,000 square feet of contaminated drywall has been removed from the hotel, and it is anticipated the total removal amount will exceed 100,000 square feet.  Meeting projected budgets on a project with extensive areas of mold contamination can be challenging, but OHC professionals have remained focused on every aspect of daily inspections, material removal, and decontamination methods to ensure the highest possible product is delivered in a cost effective manner.
